Below is clarification and updated details on the 2023-24 Indoor Tryout & Signing Policy. A reminder to everyone that the 2022-2023 Indoor Season of Play runs until May 31. This means athletes are still committed to their current clubs as Letters of Intent expire at the end of the VA Club Season (May 31). Athletes may choose to accept an offer or explore other options. No communication or recruiting of signed club athletes can occur until June.

Clubs in good standing may re-sign athletes within their own club from the 2022/23 season (May 29 – June 5).  

• Clubs can run information sessions and Open Gyms, if necessary, for athletes within their club until May 31. This may be done so new coaches or coaches moving to a different age group can meet athletes.  16U – 18U Age Groups (2023-2024 Season): 16U (born September 2007-December 2008), 17U (born September 2006-December 2007), 18U (born September 2005-December 2006).

 Clubs are not permitted to run any on-court activity from June 1-5, 2023. Athletes have just finished a long season and should be given an opportunity to recover physically, mentally, and emotionally.

• Athletes and clubs are able to communicate during this period. Open Houses are an option at this time (information sessions where clubs can share details about their coaches and program plans). 16U – 18U Age Groups (2023-2024 Season): 16U (born September 2007-December 2008), 17U (born September 2006-December 2007), 18U (born September 2005-December 2006).

Open Houses (information sessions where clubs can share details about their coaches and program plans) are strongly encouraged from June 6 until the start of the Early Signing/Tryout Period on June 17. We ask clubs to be mindful of athlete wellness and recovery by limiting the number of Open Gyms (any on court sessions) they offer prior to the Early Signing/Tryout Period (June 17). Athletes are best served by selecting clubs with athlete-wellness approaches.

Failure to follow the guidelines for the Signing and Tryouts Process will result in a review. To submit a concern, please direct it to conduct@volleyballalberta.ca  

Please note the 2023-2024 Indoor Signing & Tryout Process for the 13U – 15U age groups begins in November: 13U (born September 2010-December 2011), 14U (born September 2009-December 2010), 15U (born September 2008-December 2009).
