Team Alberta is Volleyball Alberta’s Provincial team program. The purpose of the team AB program is to identify athletes with potential to excel in the sport of volleyball, and provide high-performance training and competition experiences in order to further their development on the path to future post-secondary, National team and professional league playing careers.

Team Alberta Goals & Curriculum
Goals
- The goal of our provincial team program is to identify athletes who have the potential to develop and reach the next levels in our sport. This would include post-secondary, National Team programs and professional leagues.
- To identify coaches that have potential to coach in a high-performance stream.
- To help develop the athlete’s technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills by exposing them to enriched levels of training and competition.
- To mentor, develop and educate coaches in a high-performance environment.
- To provide opportunities for athletes and coaches to build their competence, character, confidence and leadership. To encourage/inspire athletes and coaches to reach the highest levels in our sport.
- To prepare athletes and coaches for participation and success at the post-secondary and National Team levels as well as Western Canada Summer Games, Canada Summer Games, and the Canada Cup.
Curriculum
In order to get all volleyball players in Alberta onto a similar learning and training program, the Volleyball Alberta High Performance Committee was tasked with forming a curriculum for 16-to-18 year old athletes to follow. The below curriculums are living documents that will be updated every few years to reflect recent evidence and coach/athlete feedback.
Team Alberta Warm Up:
The following Warm-up videos were developed by Carlyn Stilling based on sport science. All volleyball athletes are encouraged to watch and integrate these warm-ups into their everyday practice environments.

The following athlete agreement from a previous Team AB season demonstrates the expectations of all athletes that participate in Team AB and other high-performance programs with Volleyball Alberta.
Athlete Application Portal (GMTM)
Athlete Application will open on December 2nd, 2024.
Financial Assistance
Athletes in financial need can apply to Volleyball Alberta for assistance via the Hugh Hoyles Scholarship Fund. Applications will be available April 1, 2025 for athletes being considered for Team Alberta selection.

KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under
Jumpstart funding helps families that need a financial hand with registration, equipment and/or transportation costs.
Volleyball Alberta is also collecting donations for scholarships for Team Alberta athletes and Alberta athletes in the National Excellence Program. You can support our high performance athletes by donating your bottles, cans, and other recyclables through Skip the Depot. Use the Skip the Depot website or apps on iOS or Android to sign up and schedule a pick up. After your bottles are counted, use your account to donate your deposit to Volleyball Alberta.
